Step 1

To get red wine out of the carpet, start by mixing 1/2 tsp of dish liquid, 1/2 a tsp of baking soda and 1/2 tsp white vinegar with 2 cups of warm water. The combination of these ingredients makes an effective cleaning solution to help you remove the stain.

Step 2

Take a dry, clean cloth and soak it in the mixture of water and vinegar.

Step 3

Use the cloth to rub the area where you spilled the wine. You’ll want to make sure you apply pressure with the cloth so that all of the liquid gets transferred to the cloth.

Step 4

Once you have removed most of the liquid from the carpet, take your paper towels or a dry cloth and use it to blot up any remaining moisture.

Step 5

After blotting up as much of the remaining moisture as possible, you will want to allow the carpet to air-dry overnight. However, if there is still visible moisture on the carpet after drying, repeat step four.

Step 6

When the carpet has dried completely, vacuum the area.

Soffa Magazines Best Tips When Removing Red Wine Out Of Carpet

How to get red wine out of carpet

There are a variety of best practice tips you can bear in mind when removing red wine from carpet. Some of our best are:

1.) Make sure that you saturate the stain before trying to remove the stain. Let your mix of soap, vinegar, baking soda and warm water sit wet on the stain for a good half an hour before cleaning to really help lift it.

This is especially important if it’s an old dried red wine stain that has lodged deep in the fibers of the carpet (or even worse, a shag rug!).

2.) Again, you should always try to remove the stain immediately following the spill. Doing so will prevent the stain from seeping back into the carpet and make it a lot easier for you to get it out, with far less elbow grease!

3.) Always check your cleaning codes before undertaking any cleaning so you know what cleaning agents can be used on your specific carpet. Always make sure that you are buying products that are appropriate for carpet use, or make your own cleaning solution to ensure that you are being gentle on the fibers.

If you can’t find a cleaning code label on the carpet, call the manufacturer and ask first.

4.) Be careful about using heat. You should make sure that you blot the carpet dry, but avoid using heat sources like steam cleaners or hair dryers. Some carpets can handle the heat – but many can’t so proceed with caution!

5.) If you’re unable to remove the stain yourself, contact a professional carpet cleaner to do the job for you. After all, while this might seem like an expense you can’t afford, it’s significantly cheaper than having to replace the entire carpet.

Can You Use Salt To Get Red Wine Out Of Carpet?

Yes you can! Red wine, fleas, stains – salt can work wonders on your carpets.

Salt is a common household ingredient that can be used to help remove red wine out of your carpet. However, using salt to remove red wine stains from your carpet produces the best results when the red wine is still damp.

Once you have blotted the red wine stain, you will want to cover the surface of the stain with a thick layer of salt. The salt will absorb the wine stain as it dries. Once the stain has dried, you can then vacuum up the salt.

This can be another great alternative option to the method we’ve listed earlier.

How Do You Remove Old & Dried Red Wine Stains?

As I’ve mentioned above, it’s easiest to remove red wine stains when they’re fresh, as the longer it remains on the carpet the more difficult it becomes to get your carpet back to its original state.

However, sometimes this might not be an option and it doesn’t mean it’s impossible to remove old wine stains, it just means that they’re a little trickier to navigate.

So, how do you remove old red wine stains?

First, let me tell you what you don’t want to do. Don’t try to scrub away the old wine stain. Scrubbing away a wine stain without rehydrating it is futile.

The best way is honestly to use the soap, vinegar, baking soda and warm water method we’ve detailed above. You’ll just need to let the cleaner sit on the stain a little longer before cleaning, and when it is time to clean – you’ll need to put in a bit more elbow grease!
